Laptops have a place in the classroom but are the teachers ready?

Hi

I read an article in an Australian Newspaper this morning that sums up some of the problems we teachers face being digital immigrants in a classroom full of digital natives…our students!

The article warns that simply providing the laptops is not enough, we must also provide extensive teacher training to get our educators up to speed. Even then we are facing an uphill battle. Have a read and see what you think.

  1. How true Kimbra.
You have provided me with a whole morning of reading as once I read the first article, I then read the blog of another writer who had been tagged to that website and so……..I guess what I am saying is the information highway is open and flying way too fast for us to ignore….I feel like I am in the movie Nemo with the turtles riding that pacific current. Staying inside the current is lots of fun, but scary at the same time. I don’t know what is ahead, but if I jump out of the current, I will lose contact, and be left behind. I think they’re right…..just having the computer/laptop in the classroom is like being left behind. We have to know how to ride it, and make use of that massive social network and include it in our classrooms. If we just want it for printing out essays, you might as well go back to writing essays by hand……..that’s how antiquated it is in todays world.
