Got any money 5KP?

On Tuesday, we were fortunate enough to watch the Kliptown Youth Program from South Africa perform traditional gumboot dances. We were treated to heart-felt vocals, accompanied by rousing dance performances that left the students moved physically and emotionally. At the end of their performance, these gentlemen were able to share a bit of the history of the gumboot dance, as well as personal stories of the youth involved in their program. It was a perfect match for our study of cultures.

There have been many healthy discussions about how privileged each of us are in our current lives and how we should be grateful for what we have in light of what others in our world may not have. Please speak to your child about this moving performance. If you’d like to make a donation to assist this worthwhile organization, I’ll be collecting money through November 9th to be deposited into their account, give if you can 5KP, I know you appreciated their performance but I also know how much you’ve recently donated to Uganda too!

Don’t forget to check out Mrs C’s blog over the weekend to get a feel for the students you will be online buddies with. They would get a kick out of seeing some comments from you on there.

Enjoy your long weekend and I look forward to hearing about it on Monday.

  1. Hi Mrs. Power! Are you feeling better? I hope so. Do you think you’ll be at school tomorrow, or do have to have something worse than a cold to have a sick day? Please come to school, it’s no fun without you.

I might bring in the math books to school tomorrow. I might forget and leave them at my house. Even if I don’t forget, I’d still have to ask my mom. So far I’ve completed one assignment for the math thingo. Almost there, NOT!

Oh my gosh, more money! I’ll try to bring in 100, though it’s gonna be hard on such short notice. I think what I’m gonna do is get 10 from Emily, 5 from Ryan, and 20 from my parents. That’ll bring me up to about 35. Maybe I should put in 15. I didn’t put in any for Uganda, a lot of it was my parents. In order to raise the other 50 I’m probably gonna have to walk around my compound finding sponsors. Wish me luck!

    Feel better.

And it’s true just like Maddie said, it’s no fun without you! Can you figure out why I still can’t go on Mrs. Chiavarini’s class blog? thx!

  3. Any updates? I miss you, so does Ms.Bui. Hope you feel better! Are you going to come back to school at all this week? You missed watching Babies. It was so much better than the first time, you were right.

Does your head still hurt? I sure hope not, I’m starting to get a cold too. I have a runny nose all the time, and I can’t stop sneezing. I’m sure the sneezing has nothing to do with the cold, but it’s true.Comment on my blog to tell me whats going on. Here’s the link:

I’m so excited! I finished the many questions that we had to answer on Mrs. Yick’s blog. It’s on the final cultural studies page on my blog, no more drafts! See you soon.
