Are you enjoying your holiday???

Hi there 5KP
How is your break going? How wonderful that tomorrow, we don’t have to get up early and catch the bus…
Hooray, hooray, hooray! I think I am more excited than you are. Well anyway, I would love to hear how everything is going on your break whether or not you are here or elsewhere.Try and add some photos to your blog too.
Enjoy

Wet weekend in Shanghai

Hi Students

I feel like I haven’t seen you for ages.  I taught you on Tuesday and then we have had a day of typhoons and I spent the last three days at school, but without you, at a conference. So we have a busy week ahead of us before the luxury of October Break is here. During this week we will be reviewing our unit two math test results, many of you did very well, congratulations. We will be starting our unit three in math and I would like to finish another two science experiments before the break too. Then of course our main priority is keeping on track with our ‘global natives’ project, making sure we adhere to the timeline and that people are not wasting their time googling aimlessly but are effectively researching their chosen tribe.

In regard to the upcoming break, in your own blog I would like you to write about what your plans are for this week long holiday. If you don’t feel like you have much going on and would rather write a fantasy entry, put the title as ‘fantasy October break’. If they are real plans, call it ‘My October break’ I look forward to reading your entries and I look forward to finally teaching you again tomorrow…

Moganshan Lu

Hello blog readers
Well I am hopefully heading off today to check out some art at Moganshan Lu. I have never been there before but it has been on my to do list for awhile now. It sounds like there is a great exhibition on:

Exhibition of Chinese Contemporary Artists on Global Warming

so I will take my daughter Hannah and check it out.

I hope you are having a great weekend and I hope the link I put on here actually works.

Signed…still learning about blogging

I spent my ‘summer’ in an Aussie winter but it was great to have a big break and I am back feeling ready for action.
Meet you and see you soon…

Inspiring stories of teenage climber

Hi all, I stumbled upon this inspiring story while checking out Mr Utecht’s blog
which in turn led me to an SAS counselor’s blog
It contains information about a girl who started climbing mountains when she was the same age as some of my grade 5 students. But not just any mountains, the biggest mountains in the world.
Read about Samantha Larson’s adventures and let me know what you think. It certainly made me want to climb.

One week of school to go!!!

It is approaching 11.30 am on Thursday the 31st of May. At this time next week I will have some very excited 5th graders on my hands as they take off to begin their summer vacation. I will be spending my holiday in the southern hemisphere so no sunshine for me…but lots of family and friends to catch up with so that will be fantastic.
Only 8 of my students (out of 18) are remaining at Pudong Campus of SAS for the next school year. It will be great to see them in the middle school here and I wish all of my current students the very best that life has to offer.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN 5KP?

We are completing our Charlie assignments over LA time this week and I have given the class an extension until Tuesday the 29thof May as they have been generally using their time very well and would benefit from the extra weekend on the project.

All students have completed their Nutritious Meal projects. Each student has now presented their project to the rest of the class and been given back an assessment sheet where they can see where their strengths and weaknesses were. Overall I am extremely proud of the effort the class have made and I have been overwhelmed with positive feedback from parents over the bonding that took place during the project, what great news!

In Social Studies we have finished our unit on the 13
Colonies. I was very happy with the effort and planning that many of the
students put into their group activity. Well done 5KP, your presentation skills
are really developing and I am glad you learnt so much.

In Math we completed Unit 11 and are halfway through unit 12. We should complete the final chapter next week and I plan to do the test next Friday June 1st.

Grade 5 Stepping Up Assembly

The Grade 5 Stepping Up assembly is happening this Thusday at 9 am in the lecture theatre

near the H/S library. I encourage you all to come out and get information from
Mr. Munnerlyn about the expectations required from your child when entering
middle school. This session is due to finish at around 10.30 am.

 SAs pudong Yearbook

The SAS Pudong
Yearbook is on sale now. Envelopes were given to your child last Friday. During
the month of May they are RMB230, but in June they are RMB260. So get your
envelope returned ASAP!

 Thanks

Thanks to all
the parents for the Teacher Appreciation Lunch last Thusday. Teachers were very
impressed (like they are every year) with the awesome spread. It seems to get
bigger and bigger every year. THANK YOU!

 Elementary Track and Field Day

The Elementary
Track and Field Days have been split to lower elementary and upper elementary.
The upper elementary Track and Field Day is on Wednesday 23 May.

Don’t forget
to wear your House shirts and come on out for a great day of fun activities!

 Thanks

 Elementary concerts

There are two
great  elementary concerts this week. On
Thursday the grade 3 and 4 choir will be performing at 1:30pm in the auditorium
and then on Friday the grade 5 Band and Strings will be performing a concert at
1:30pm in the same venue. We hope to see you all there.

Volunteers
to be recognized

The parents of 5KP have been very visible and
active in the school. Dr. Larkin would like to recognize you for your great
efforts. As per the written notice in the Parent Talk two weeks ago, please RSVP
today
if you can attend the May 24 at 3pm service in the Secondary School Lobby. You are to contact
iris.zhu@saschina.org

 ThankYOU
It was a
wonderful opportunity to get together with the majority of the class yesterday,
also their siblings and parents and so a big thankyou goes out to Letitia’s mum
and dad, Theressa and Young for opening up their home and hearts to us. It was
greatly appreciated by everyone. Thankyou to those that organised this event,
brought along food and attended. Your kind words towards your children were
very touching and I feel very fortunate to have been a part of your child’s
elementary school experience.
