Hi Parents
Welcome to my blog page on how to help you make the most of your library experience at SAS Pudong Elementary. Just in our ES Library alone, there are more than 30,000 items to choose from, your child should never come home saying they can’t find anything to read.
You are welcome to browse around the other pages on the blog that are geared for the students and for the teachers, but this page is specifically set up to answer the questions that YOU as a parent will have.
Here are some FAQ’s with answers…feel free to e mail me at kimbra.power@saschina.org if your question is not answered here.
1. How many books can my child check out?
Pre K-1st Grade Children are allowed to check out up to 5 books at a time. We’d like them to always check out ONE non-fiction book (at least). They are also allowed to check out one magazine or one DVD too, as well as fiction books in the Primary Library.
Grade 2-Grade 5 students can have UNLIMITED check-out privileges; so encourage them to use their common sense and make sure they don’t check out more books than they can read (carry!).
Grade 2-Grade 5 students, like I said, their check out is unlimited, but within that, they can check out a maximum of:
1 Graphic Novel
2 DVD’s
3 Books in a Series
2. My child LOVES to read… are there any other opportunities during a six day cycle for them to check out books?
PreK-1st grade students have a teacher assistant who sometimes brings them around in the morning to exchange books, that is set up between the library team, and the teacher.
2nd grade-5th grade students also have lunch recess time available as follows:
Monday and Wednesday-Grades 2 and 4 are allowed to check out in the library during their lunch recess time. If the day is too hot/wet/polluted you are welcome to stay and read. If the day is fine, we’ll send you out to play once you’ve checked out your books.
Tuesday and Thursday-Grades 3 and 5 are allowed to check out in the library during their lunch recess time. If the day is too hot/wet/polluted you are welcome to stay and read. If the day is fine, we’ll send you out to play once you’ve checked out your books.
3. Can I volunteer in the library?
Yes you sure can, I am very flexible (and grateful) about this. For example… next time you are coming in for a child’s concert/birthday party/writing celebration/soccer day please plan some time before or after to come and help us in the library. We have unlimited check-out for most of our students, so there are ALWAYS books to be shelved. It only takes a few minutes with Ms. Stella, Ms. Joji or me helping you to work out how you can help us provide the best experience possible for your children.
4. Can my child renew books from home?
Yes, and I will show you how to do this below, in the second video you see.
In this first video, I show you how to log in to our destiny.saschina.org system and check your child’s history, as well as how to find a book. Have a look around the catalog… you can’t break it… see what you find.
