Here’s to new beginnings…

How exciting to have met and enjoyed the students I will teach for the rest of the school year. They are a lively, enthusiastic, happy and positive bunch of young people and we had a really great first four days together. They seem to gel as a group and that is really important for our learning environment, I have had some really tight-knit classes over the past 5 years at S.A.S. and it is wonderful watching them grow and learn together.

To the right of the screen it says 5KP students and I will keep my former students up there until the current 5KP class are introduced to blogging and have their own blog set up (within the next two weeks). In the meantime check out the work that was done by last years students as a guide to what sort of events and activities your children can look forward to this year.

*Don’t forget swim tryouts are Monday and Tuesday at 3.15 pm in our wonderful aquatics center. See here for details
*Please see Ms. Denton’s blog as she has posted information for her band students. All the blog addresses you need are listed in the right sidebar, Ms. Denton is under specialists. Just click on the link.

Happy Halloween

The class had a great time today being dressed up and parading around the school. There was a lot of school spirit to be had and a big congratulations to the Pumas who are coming first in the Elementary House Awards for spirit so far. Thanks to the parents who came in and enjoyed watching the kids shouting and cheering their way around the corridors. It was a fun assembly in the middle school gym and I wish everyone good luck tonight with their trick or treating. Don’t forget to BRUSH YOUR TEETH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Apologies for hardly any photos of the students in the slide show on the right….It was Mimi’s first Halloween and I got a little carried away with the cuteness so please humor me. Have a great weekend, only 7 more of them til the winter break!

Writers Workshop

We have happily started our Writers Workshop unit in our Language Arts classes this week. During the first quarter we will be using a variety of tools and stimuli to start creating a folio of ideas that we will draw on throughout the year. The idea is for the children to understand that they are all writers and they have many memories that they can write about. Then we will help them to go to a deeper level in their writing to extract more meaning and value from their work.

Go to our class flickr page to check out some of your children in the writing zone digging down deep to remember some of the special experiences they can draw from in their writing. We really have a great class of writers in 5KP, it is very exciting.
