Celebrations All Around

Hi Everyone

What a huge week it was last week, personally and professionally! Thank you for all your kind words regarding the passing of my grand-gather. Thank you for your attendance at Founder’s Day and for dressing your children up so beautifully; they were a sight to behold. You may have heard we have a new addition to our family, his name is Jeremiah and we will be providing a home for him to heal and thrive in until he is adopted. He is a delightful young four month old with Spina Bifida and our daughters are already besotted by him… wish us luck on this journey!

ASA Doc

This week we have A.S.A.’s on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after school and your children will be taking the ASA bus, ES ASA Bus Schedule and Date 1st Qtr, leaving school at 4 pm each day.

This Thursday we will have our first of two Soccer Days. The kids have been working on their skills during PE and recess times and it looks like we have a skilled set of players this year. The main aim of our Elementary Soccer days is for the kids to have fun, support each other and enjoy themselves on the field. Thanks to the PTSA for supporting our kids by sending in fruit and drinks; you are also welcome to join us out on the field between 10 and 1 to cheer on the team, we are highlighted below as Team 5 so that you can find us more easily.

Soccer Day 5KP

Friday is the day we will celebrate our Writer’s Workshop Launch with the publishing of our first personal narrative. We won’t be inviting parents in for this one, however in future, we’d love you to join us as we celebrate your child’s achievements.

Ready to See some Pictures???

It’s been busy, it’s been exciting, and it has involved a lot of help from the parents of 5KP.
Thank You Parents. Students, please give your mother and father a big, friendly hug from me!
I am so happy you came along today to help us out at Expo, Xie Xie to Flora, Brian, Marilyn, Kristen and Olivia for coming along today. We could not have done it without your amazing assistance, patience and time.

And in other news for those of you STILL with us after all this viewing…

Shanghai American School will close one hour early on Wednesday, September 29th and Thursday, 30th.
The Shanghai American School administration has been informed that the Shanghai Municipal Government will be closing surface streets and some bridges in the downtown areas of Shanghai starting tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.

Our transportation coordinators and the YEAP Transportation company have confirmed that this will severely limit many of our bus routes from both campuses. Based on this information, we will be closing school at 2:00 p.m. both days. There will be no after school activities on either day.

Please contact your building principal or your supervisor if you have any questions.

Please check out the Elementary School Principals Blog for information about our Ugandan Fundraiser that will be coinciding with UNITED NATIONS Day on October 22nd. Our children will be taking part in a walk-a-thon that day, more details to follow. There is also information there regarding a visit to our school by Jason Ohler. Dr. Jason Ohler is a speaker, writer, teacher, researcher, and lifelong digital humanist who is well known for the passion, insight, and humor he brings to his presentations, projects and writings. He will be working with our students in class after the October Break and there is an opportunity for you to meet with him as well if you are interested.

Have a great week, enjoy your October Break and thanks for loaning me your great kids for the year…

Soccer Day Success

The sun was shining, all the teams showed up and 17 out of 18 of our class were fit to play for the day. It was unfortunate that Izzy wasn’t able to play with us but she is still recovering from her operation to have her appendix removed. Read here for the details of that! Izzy had a great time however helping out with some Pre-K and K classes.

But the rest of 5KP took to the field with gusto playing 6 games back to back. We didn’t always win…but we never lost! A great time was had by all and I was super impressed with the team work, co-operation, good sportsmanship and fair-play demonstrated by all. A special mention to Kyle here who was recommended by a Jordan’s mum as showing excellent team spirit!

We have some fantastic soccer players in our class, some fast students who really go after the ball. Congratulations to our goal scorers and all of you who helped make the day a success. Thanks to the parents who came out and cheered and a special thanks to Samantha’s mum who did about three hours of document scanning for me that morning. You are a life-saver!

Check out some pictures of 5KP and their gorgeous mascot…Miss Mimi!!!

Treat Day and Soccer Day October 9th

Hello Parents and Students

A wonderful day for all of us coming up tomorrow with our first soccer day of the year…hooray! To make it an even more exciting experience, well, for me anyway…it is also treat day! So send your child in with a water bottle, nutritious and filling packed lunch for soccer day and 5 or 10 rmb to buy a yummy snack. Treats will be available in the middle school cafeteria.

Also, you never know with the weather right now so please make sure they have a hat and also a jacket…be prepared! The class are going along famously right now, I am loving how well they co-operate with each other and their generally happy dispositions.

Hi Parents and Students

It is great to see most of you back safe and sound, wonderful to see Izzy again with us and hopefully tomorrow we will have Willow back too.

Soccer Day

Thursday 9 October is the grade 5 soccer day. The main focus of the soccer is participation, fun and getting to meet other fifth graders from around Shanghai. It is being held right here at SAS Pudong so we hope to see some of you out here to support and cheer on our teams. The first game should start around 10 am.

P.T.S.A. Fall BBQ

This Saturday October 11 is the Fall BBQ. We hope that you can all make it out here to enjoy the good food and even better company. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to enjoy this fun day with you as I have other school commitments that weekend.

Homework task for tonight

The students have been working in class on ‘show don’t tell’ in their writing.

Students for homework please post two paragraphs (1 for each sentence) on your blog. You can choose from any of these ‘telling’ statements.

I am hungry.

I am angry.

I am happy.

I am sad.
