Our Read-a-Loud during this unit is the wonderful Home of the Brave by Katherine Applegate. I highly recommend this book and know it will prompt thought and great discussion amongst the students as they explore the life of a Sudanese refugee named Kek.

3. I think the biggest move she made was moving from Mexico City to Taipei (Taiwan). I think that was the biggest move because North America is very different from Asia. My mom also think that that was the biggest move. She said that it was because it made the biggest change in her life. She had to move so far from her family, and she had to get used to Asian culture.

I am having the worst day of my life… related to writing. There is a contest on a subject which is, “The Decision.” And I have absolutely no ideas and I have come to the best writing teacher I know. I’m asking for some sort of Idea that could be interesting yet powerful. Thanks in advance,
